ABOUT MANIZALES

History of Manizales.

Manizales was founded on October 12, 1849 on a high ridge of the central Andes Mountains. It was founded by “The Expedition of 20,” a legendary group of pioneers who came from Neira and Salamina. It was named after a gray, peanut-shaped rock called “mani,” and later referred to as a “gran manizal,” due to the profusion of the material.
